Sits vacant : We want you!
In this competitive age of the ‘war for talent’ where discussions centre around ‘building talent pipelines’, ‘target market’, ‘EVP’, ‘employer brand’ and social media recruitment … it is refreshing, and humorous, to take a peek back at earlier recruitment advertising that hit the mark.
Take Ernest Shackleton’s recruitment drive for his 1907 Nimrod expedition. It is short, to the point and unfailingly honest. No mis-selling here.
Men wanted …
for hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success.
Historical accounts suggest that Shackleton received 5000 applications and that he filtered them down into three categories, ‘Mad’, ‘Hopeless’ and ‘Possible’.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Gotta' love it...
